Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler used to restore fullness to areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks and mid-face. HA is highly effective at plumping the skin, enhancing contours, softening lines and adding volume to the face. 

As we age, our bodies produce less Hyaluronic Acid. As a result, our collagen and elastin fibers lack hydration and nourishment and struggle to support the face. Cosmetic fillers replenish depleted HA. The result is restored volume and a revitalized appearance.

 Juvederm XC comes with Lidocaine in its formulation, while Juvederm alone does not.

Juvederm Voluma, Volbella and Vollure are the newest fillers made by Allergan. They differ from Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus in the way the HA molecules are arranged in their formulas. Specifically, Ultra and Ultra Plus, offer a hyaluronic acid in a single consistency and uniform molecular weight. (Allergan refers to this formulation as Hylacross technology). On the other hand, a Voluma, Volbella and Vollure injectable is made with proprietary Vycross technology, which has a varied consistency and weight.

No, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all filler that provides the same results. And that’s a good thing! Juvederm offers a comprehensive line of fillers that offer great versatility. That gives us the freedom to target individual skincare needs. Basically, each formulation is different. Therefore, one Juvederm product will be better suited to add volume to a certain area of the face or for a particular skincare concern. Generally speaking, the thicker the formula, the more sturdy structure it will provide for the face. For example, a cheek filler requires a thicker formulation, in order to lift and define the mid-face area. On the other hand, a lip filler needs to be thinner, in order to provide more movement. Additionally, the best filler consistency is one that matches the extent of aging on the face. For example, for deep nasolabial folds, we would always recommend a thicker filler. On the other hand, for mild laugh lines, we’d recommend a thinner filler.

A Juvederm facial filler session usually takes between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area. Our NYC Medical Director, Dr. George, MD, will evaluate your face, and mark strategic injection points for placement. Using a super-fine needle, the injections will take place at various predetermined sites along the treatment area. Finally, he will evaluate the treatment area to assess whether additional filler is needed to assure maximum benefit to the skin.

Because cosmetic fillers are minimally invasive, they are safe and effective alternatives to plastic surgery. Following Juvederm injection, there’s no downtime, and extreme after effects are rare. Most patients can return to normal activity immediately. However, some patients describe a mild pinching, stinging or burning sensation at the injection site, but the treatment is usually easily tolerated. It’s advised that intense physical exercise be avoided for 24-48 hours, in order to minimize swelling. The most commonly reported adverse events were temporary redness, bruising, numbness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days. Topical icing is recommended to alleviate these symptoms. 

Juvederm fillers are offered at a price per syringe. However, the total cost depends on the area treated, as well as the correction desired. In general, we suggest that you come in for a private consultation to determine the Juvederm cost.
