Before the O Shot
Two Weeks Before Treatment
Avoid Blood Thinners — Refrain from use of excessive or unnecessary blood thinners.
Avoid Supplements — Consider avoiding supplements that may increase bruising, such as high-dose vitamin E or fish oil.
Plan Schedule — Allow rest after the procedure if needed.
One Week Before
Avoid NSAIDs — Use of any Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including over-the-counter medications like Ibuprofen (Motrin, Aleve) and Aspirin, as well as prescription medications like Naproxen is not recommended, as they may interfere with platelet function.
Use Acetaminophen — Use Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain relief, when necessary.
Avoid Alcohol — Reduces the risk of bruising and supports platelet function.
Stay Hydrated — Drink plenty of water to optimize platelet activity and recovery.
Three Days Before
Discontinue Vaginal Products — Stop use of any vaginal creams, gels, or douches.
Notify Physician — If you have a history of genital herpes, notify the physician, who will prescribe a course of antiviral prophylactic treatment.
Avoid Bleaching — Refrain from bleaching the vagina.
Take Arnica — Take a course of Arnica Homeopathic tablets until a day after treatment to decrease the occurrence of bruising.
Reschedule if Needed — Notify Smooth Synergy® to reschedule if, between now and your appointment, you are:
Menstruating
Experiencing an active outbreak of genital herpes or Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
Pregnant or breastfeeding
The Day of Your O Shot Procedure
Preparation & Safety Tips:
Bring Gynecologic Clearance — Arrive with Pap Smear / Gynecologist clearance from within the last 12 months.
Eat a Light Meal — Be sure to eat a small meal prior to treatment.
Stay Hydrated — Drink water before your appointment to support platelet function and overall comfort.
Wear Comfortable Clothing — Loose-fitting clothes make it easier to access the treatment area and stay relaxed.
Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine — Minimizes bruising, swelling, and anxiety.
Comfort Measures:
Use Topical Numbing — A topical numbing cream can be applied before treatment.
Take Anti-Anxiety Medication if Needed — If you elect to receive anti-anxiety medicine, such as Xanax, the physician will provide it on-site.
Use Pro-Nox Analgesic — Pro Nox self-administered analgesic is available to reduce pain and anxiety.
Bring a Support Person if Needed — Especially if you’re taking anti-anxiety medication.
Limit Stressful Activities — Keep the morning calm to reduce anxiety and optimize results.
If opting for anti-anxiety medication, arrange for transportation home following treatment.
O-Shot Aftercare
Post-Procedure Safety & Activity:
Allow Medication to Wear Off — Allow up to two hours for anti-anxiety medication to wear off. Be sure you feel steady on your feet before engaging in any activity.
Shower and Cleanse — Showering and cleansing the vagina is allowed once medication has worn off. A gentle cleanser may be used on the treatment area.
Avoid Strenuous Exercise — Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Monitor Symptoms — If extreme swelling or any unforeseen symptoms occur, please contact Smooth Synergy® at 212-397-0111.
Comfort Measures:
Use Acetaminophen — Acetaminophen may be used for discomfort. Refrain from NSAIDs (see above) for seven days.
Antihistamines — Antihistamines, like Benadryl and Zyrtec, may be used for minor itching.
Apply Ice or Cool Packs — For up to 48 hours following treatment, cool packs or ice can relieve minor discomfort and reduce swelling and bruising. Ice for a maximum of 20 minutes per hour. After 48 hours, switch to hot packs.
Use Arnica Gel — May be applied for bruising.
Stay Hydrated — Continue drinking plenty of water to support healing and platelet function.
Avoid Alcohol — Helps minimize swelling and bruising.
Wear Loose Clothing — Prevents irritation on treated areas.
Rest as Needed — Light activity is fine, but allow your body to recover.
Post-Treatment Expectations for the O Shot
Safety and Activity:
Generally Safe — The O Shot is noninvasive, meaning it’s typically considered safe with minimal downtime, side effects, and recovery.
Return to Normal Activity — You may return to normal activity with the exception of strenuous exercise. Sexual intercourse is allowed after treatment.
Common Side Effects:
Minor Symptoms — Most side effects from the treatment should not be cause for alarm. Symptoms are usually minor and should subside in time, as a normal part of the healing process. They may be alleviated with simple measures, as described above.
Flushing — Immediately following treatment, the treatment area may appear flushed, which usually subsides within several hours.
Tingling, Swelling, Soreness, and Tenderness — Mild tingling, swelling, soreness, and tenderness may occur for up to three days.
Bruising — Bruising, particularly at the injection site, may last for several weeks.
