Laser Hair Removal
Though its one of the most requested beauty treatments, its surprising how very little people understand about laser hair removal. We’ve previously attempted to debunk certain myths that keep being propagated about, but clients who seek hair removal treatments at our cosmedical spa in NYC, often are under the wrong impression about what they can expect. What you didn’t know about laser treatments for hair removal can actually disappoint you in the end. Here are the top things your laser technician wants you to know before you schedule that appointment:
- Your skin and hair color plays a role in the treatment’s results and success. Understand that if the hair you want to be free of is blonde, red or gray, the results will not be as good as on those hairs that are darker in color. The laser that is used for hair removal actually targets the pigments in hair – not the actual hair. Some laser machines may also have trouble with dark-pigmented skin as there is not enough contrast between the skin and the hair.
- Complete hair removal is not attained with just one appointment. The best results come from consistent appointments, scheduled about four to five weeks from the last one. You should understand that complete hair removal can’t be expected for the body before eight to 10 sessions, and six to eight for facial areas.
- Don’t expect to be permanently free of bothersome hair. Though it is likely that you’ll notice a reduced amount of hair, or even finer hair in treated areas, laser hair removal is not permanent with re-growth occurring after one to several years.
- Don’t show up cleanly plucked or waxed. There has to be some hair present for the laser to detect the pigment within the follicle. If you’ve waxed recently, or plucked the hair within days of your treatment, you will not experience optimal results.
