Before and After

FAQs

Scientists consider Vampire Hair Therapy the most effective treatment for male and female pattern baldness, apart from surgery. It’s due to the powerful regenerative properties of Platelet Rich Plasma (or PRP). Rich in proteins and growth factors, PRP stimulates the hair follicle to promote stem cell growth, collagen production and increased blood flow to the scalp. A series of PRP Therapy for hair will spark hair to regrow. This regrowth will continue and, after approximately a year, hair will be thicker, stronger and more manageable.

Cell therapy – stem cells, growth factors, and cell multiplication – has innovated the world of medicine and healing. Since it’s introduction in 1970, Platelet Rich Plasma treatment has had wide medical application. Plasma Rich Protein injections  are regularly used for tendonitis, knee or shoulder injury,  arthritis, as well as nerve damage. Sports and orthopedic medicine specialties are most likely to take advantage of the healing power of blood injections. PRP has been used by many pro athletes, including Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, and Maria Sharapova.

Charles Runel, MD was the first doctor to apply the science behind plasma rich protein to the world of cosmetics and skin / hair rejuvenation. In 2011, Dr. Runels registered and trademarked his procedure, later made famous by Kim Kardashian, the Vampire FaceLift. Since then, Dr. Runels  has pioneered other platelet rich plasma skin rejuvenation treatments including: Vampire FaceLift, Vampire Facial, Vampire Breast Lift, The P-Shot for penis / sexual rejuvenation, as well as the O-Shot and Wing Lift for vaginal / sexual rejuvenation. Taking advantage of the science behind the Vampire Facelift, PRP hair therapy uses hair regrowth injections, which activate stem cells. Since Platelet Rich Plasma is a powerful growth factor found in our own blood, it can effectively be used to restore many areas of the body. Specifically, Vampire Hair Restoration works as follows:

  • Micro-injuries on the skin put stem cells into repair mode, stimulating growth factors and cells
  • New blood vessel formation (or “neovascularization”) increases the blood flow to the scalp
  • Increased cellular turnover encourages hair regrowth.

In a nutshell, PRP injection technique includes extracting and then injecting your own blood back into the skin, in order to promote cell regeneration. For hair growth, our medical expert, Dr. George, does a small blood draw and extracts the platelet rich plasma, using a superior centrifuge called the Magellan Tru PRP. Then, he places a numbing cream on the scalp. Next, he injects PRP into the scalp and, if needed, our medical estheticians follow with a microneedling pen (like a dermapen)  to stimulate the PRP into the hair follicles. Our microneedling device is a hand-held pen, called Rejuvapen, that  pierces the skin with 12 tiny needles. It’s a multi-speed, adjustable device that encourages controlled depth, spacing and frequency of punctures and maximizes absorption of the PRP deep within the hair follicle and along the scalp.

Because of the use of a numbing cream, most people consider Platelet Rich Plasma Hair Therapy to be relatively pain-free. However, individual pain tolerances effect how painful injection is. Our trained medical staff will ensure your maximum comfort, during treatment.

Some scalp tenderness and redness are normal following treatment and usually dissipates within several hours.  Because it’s a nonsurgical alternative to plastic surgery, platelet rich plasma therapy recovery time is minimal. It’s recommended that you bring a hat or cap to wear following the procedure. Most people can return to normal activity immediately following the procedure, including washing hair. But with any injection, even the flu shot, people can experience mild swelling. The swelling often occurs one to two days after the procedure and typically resolves itself within 48 hours. If you experience any swelling, it’s advised that you avoid any vigorous activity, such as refraining from exercise. The numbing cream can be greasy. Dawn is recommended to remove it. If you dye your hair, it’s recommended to use vegetable-based dye, following Vampire Hair Restoration.

Because PRP takes advantage of your own blood, PRP injection complications are unlikely. There’s no need to worry about allergic reactions or your body rejecting a foreign substance.

After a scalp injection for hair regrowth, the stem cells and tissue begin to grow and regenerate. This process increases blood flow to the scalp and  stimulates the hair follicle. As a result, patients will start to notice a decrease in hair shedding after two-three months. Additionally, it will take anywhere from two-three months for this Platelet Rich Plasma Hair Restoration to promote new hair growth. Specifically, after a series of  hair regrowth treatments, hair count and hair thickness will increase. Further, the growth phase of the hair cycle will speed up. Hair will continue to grow and will look its fullest and most robust after a year. Specifically, it will feel healthier, thicker, softer and more manageable at this point in treatment.

Men should schedule three appointments a month to six weeks apart. Women should schedule two appointments a month to six weeks apart. Results are generally long-lasting and can be maintained without additional injections anywhere from two years to permanently. Some people may need to come in for maintenance after two years.

Vampire Hair Therapy is effective for hair loss for everyone. It’s safe and highly effective for treating male and female pattern hair loss, can stop or slow thinning hair and hair shedding, as well as reduce signs of baldness. Specifically, PRP injection therapy for hair has the highest efficacy for people with alopecia areata (female) or androgenic alopecia (male), which is hair thinning along the top of the head that is genetically predetermined. However, it also offers a solution for hair loss caused by other factors including: aging, disease, stress, metabolic changes (such as iron deficiency) or hormonal imbalance. It may be used for hair reduction on the scalp, eyebrows or beard.
