Belotero is a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) injectable filler that adds volume to the skin, like a traditional filler. What makes it unique is a soft gel formulation that’s both yielding and cohesive. This gives it the ability to completely integrate into the skin tissue. With a superior ability to instantly hydrate and fill the skin,  it’s highly effective for treating etched-in lines and wrinkles for a smoother appearance.

Merz Aesthetic Products is the maker of Belotero, along with Radiesse volumizing filler. FDA-approval was granted in 2011.

Juvederm (Allergan), Restylane (Galderma) and Belotero (Merz) are all derived from Hyaluronic Acid to fill, plump and add volume to the skin. As we age, our bodies produce less Hyaluronic Acid. As a result, our collagen and elastin fibers lack hydration and nourishment and struggle to support the face. Cosmetic fillers provide replenishment to the depleted HA. The result is a fuller, fresher appearance.

The Merz Belotero family is a comprehensive line of fillers. While Belotero Soft, Balance, Intense and Volume all make use of Hyaluronic Acid, they differ by the viscosity and weight of their HA particles. Therefore, each formulation offers a unique balance of the three essential properties of a cosmetic filler: elasticity, cohesity and plasticity. This allows for great versatility in Belotero uses, as well as an ability to target particular skincare concerns with different formulations.

No, because the formulation of each filler is different, one product will be indicated to add volume to a certain area of the face or for a particular skincare concern. A range of fillers offers a tailored approach to skin restoration: Specifically, the fillers vary as follows:

Belotero Soft: Often used for finer facial lines, it’s a superior product to provide the skin with deep hydration. It’s softer profile gently integrates with tissue to correct superficial wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), nose and mouth as well as the forehead (the “elevens”).

Belotero Balance: With a balance of durability and modability, it’s a natural choice to improve the look of superficial to moderate lines and folds without compromising movement. This makes it particularly useful for the lower part of the face. It can also add volume and contour to thinning lips.

Belotero Intense: A sturdier structure makes it a great choice for replenishing deep volume loss in nasolabial folds and marionette lines, as well as for lip augmentation.

Belotero Volume: Ideal for extreme volume loss.  A thicker structure gives this filler a superior durability and lifting power. It’s particularly useful to restore midface contour deficiencies on the cheeks or over the cheekbone

A Belotero injection is actually quite simple and usually takes between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area. Our Medical Director, Dr. George, MD,  will evaluate your face, and mark strategic injection points for placement. Using a super-fine needle, he will inject the cosmetic filler at various predetermined sites along the treatment area. Finally, he evaluate the treatment area to assess whether additional filler is needed to assure maximum benefit to the skin.

Cosmetic Fillers are instantly effective at restoring volume and smoothing out lines and wrinkles. They typically last between 4-6 months. Because they are not permanent, they require a maintenance regime. Specifically, the time between treatment depends on each individual’s skincare concern and treatment goals.

Because cosmetic fillers are minimally invasive, they are safe and effective alternatives to plastic surgery. Following Belotero injections, there’s no downtime and most patients can return to normal activity immediately. However, some patients describe a mild pinching, stinging or burning sensation at the injection site, but the treatment is usually easily tolerated. It’s advised that intense physical exercise be avoided for 24-48 hours, in order to minimize swelling. Some patients experience mild and temporary swelling, bruising, numbness, tenderness or redness, which usually dissipates within a few hours to a few days. Topical icing is recommended to alleviate these symptoms.

How much filler treatment costs depends on the area treated, as well as the correction desired. For example, Belotero under eyes will cost a different amount than Belotero filler for cheeks or or for lip lines.
