Restylane Cosmetic Filler

Restylane makes a full line of cosmetic fillers to restore fullness to areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks and mid-face. Made from hyaluronic acid, they are highly effective a plumping the skin, enhancing contours, softening lines and add volume to the face.

As we age, our bodies produce less Hyaluronic Acid. As a result, our collagen and elastin fibers lack hydration and nourishment and struggle to support the face. Cosmetic fillers provide replenishment to the depleted HA. The result is a revitalized appearance.

Restylane is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based Hyaluronic Acid. It’s a crystal-clear gel called NASHATM, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

All of these cosmetic fillers are derived from Hyaluronic Acid to fill, plump and add volume to the skin. The difference is their maker, and, therefore, their specific and proprietary formulation. Restylane’s manufacturer is Galderma, who acquired the rights to  from Medicis in 2014. It had widespread use in Europe for many years. Juvederm is made by Allergan and Belotero by Merz. 

Restylane products are developed with NAHA (non-animal hyaluronic acid) which allows for biocompatibility with the human body. Unlike other hyaluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, it’s the only non-animal-based filler. This quality virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction.

This line of fillers has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips. It is currently indicated in the U.S. for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. It’s also indicated for lip augmentation.

This family of cosmetic dermal fillers includes: Silk, Lyft (formerly Perlane), Defyne, and Refyne. They all make use of Hyaluronic Acid as their active ingredient. However, they differ by the viscosity and weight of their HA particles. Therefore, each formulation offers a unique balance of the three essential properties of a cosmetic filler: elasticity, cohesity and plasticity. This allows for great versatility in their uses, as well as an ability to target particular skincare concerns with different formulations.

Restylane-L comes with Lidocaine in its formulation, while Restylane does not.

A session usually takes between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area. Our Medical Director, Dr. George, MD,  will evaluate your face, and mark strategic injection points for placement. Using a super-fine needle, the injections will take place at various predetermined sites along the treatment area. Finally, he evaluate the treatment area to assess whether additional filler is needed to assure maximum benefit to the skin.

Treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect. It’s important to note that the time between treatment depends on each individual’s skincare concern and treatment goals.

Our expert medical injector is trained and experienced in how to inject product quickly and easily. It’s injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, your physician may anesthetize the treatment area with a numbing cream, or you may opt for product that contains Lidocaine in its formulation.

Yes. Restylane has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. Because it’s non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. There is virtually no risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. Adverse effects are rare.

Because cosmetic fillers are minimally invasive, they are safe and effective alternatives to plastic surgery. Following injection, there’s minimal downtime, and extreme after effects are rare. Most patients can return to normal activity immediately. However, some patients describe a mild pinching, stinging or burning sensation at the injection site, but the treatment is usually easily tolerated. It’s advised that intense physical exercise be avoided for 24-48 hours, in order to minimize swelling. The most commonly reported adverse events were temporary redness, bruising, numbness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days. Topical icing is recommended to alleviate these symptoms. 

Fillers are offered at a price per syringe. However, the total filler cost depends on the area treated, as well as the correction desired.
