Brotox at Smooth Synergy, NYC
Brotox…Male Botox…Botox for Men…whatever name you prefer, it’s easy to see why more men than ever are taking advantage of the anti-aging benefits of Botox cosmetic (along with Dysport and Xeomin). After all, men don’t get a special anti-aging pass because of what’s between their legs. And they aren’t immune to concerns about their looks just because they carry a Y chromosome. Plus, consider the fact that Botox is a quick, FDA-approved fix to wrinkles with no downtime. That in itself is enough to explain why the American Society of Plastic Surgeons saw a 337% in the use of Botox on men from 2004-2014! Here’s more:
Brotox: Why are Men Considering Botox?
Blame the Marlboro man for the idea that men need to look weathered and wrinkled. Thankfully, the stigma against men’s self-care is going by the wayside (just like smoking and the Marlboro man!) Today, more men than ever are embracing cosmetic and aesthetic procedures to look and feel their best. Plus, a youthful appearance is an asset in today’s working environment. One study found that younger-looking men (and women) generated more revenue than older-appearing peers. Botox can give men the competitive edge in finding, keeping and advancing in a job.
Brotox: What is Botox Injectable?
Botox (along with Dysport and Xeomin) is an injectable neurotoxin that works on wrinkles by smoothing the muscle. Botox (made by Allergan) is effective on many areas of the face including: forehead, crow’s feet, glabellar (in between the eyebrows, called “the 11’s”), as well as on vertical neck bands. It can also minimize gummy smile and reduce excessive sweating. The most common place that men get Botox injections is on the forehead or in between the eyebrows. By far, the most unique use of botox in men is “brotox for balls”. It’s when men get botox injections in the scrotal area (jokingly called Scrotox). Though not FDA approved, Scrotox is becoming increasingly popular, especially for millenial men.
Brotox: What Botox Results Can I Expect?
Typically, Botox will smooth fine lines and wrinkles for between 3-4 months. However, results depend on each individual’s treatment goals and how much correction is preferred. It’s best to speak with the doctor, who is knowledgeable about how much product will work to achieve your desired treatment outcome.
Brotox: Are There Any Special Considerations for Men Considering Botox?
In general, Botox can be administered following the same protocols for men and women. However, there are differences between men and women, which can affect how Botox works on each sex:
- The most common concern for men is under dosing of Botox relative to women. Because men’s skin is thicker and has more oil glands and hair than women, they may require more product to achieve the same result.
- It’s also important to note that the aging process works differently in each sex. Women have denser fat pads in their faces, which diminish with aging and cause the face to sag. On the other hand, while men generally experience less facial laxity, they do have stronger muscles in and around the eyes and on the forehead. As a result, they can develop deeper, etched lines in these areas. This may explain why the forehead is the preferred injection site of men.
- And, finally, generally speaking, men have a greater concern than women about achieving a look that appears natural and isn’t overly “done”.
For all these reasons, it’s important to seek out treatment from a master injector, who is versed in the special considerations for men and Botox, as well as who has the medical expertise to formulate a treatment plan that’s right for each individual — whether they are a man or a woman.
